Company’s commitment to green construction
practices starts with their own offices

Turner Construction Atlanta, a leader in environmentally friendly building practices, recently received a Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the United States Green Building Council for renovation of their own Atlanta offices. Turner is Atlanta’s largest LEED builder and incorporates sustainable elements into every project.

For Winston Williams, the company’s Green Champion, the space is a demonstration of Turner’s real commitment to sustainability. “Green building practices are an important movement in construction today,” he says. “We embrace those values not only for our clients, but for ourselves as well.”

ATLANTA -- Emory University has a $5.1 billion impact on Georgia's economy, according to a study the school commissioned to mark its 175th anniversary.

The university is the fourth-largest private employer in Metro Atlanta and supports about 50,000 jobs statewide, according to the analysis by New York-based economic analysis firm Appleseed Inc.

In fiscal 2010, Emory University, which includes Emory Healthcare, spent more than $2.5 billion on payroll, purchasing and construction. Emory researchers generated $450 million in sponsored research spending and were awarded $535 million in new research funding.

Total awards rose to nearly $540 million in fiscal 2011.

Emory said it plans to spend more than $780 million in construction and renovation projects for both the university and healthcare system over the next five years.
