ATLANTA -- A race benefiting Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute will be held on Emory's campus this weekend.

Winship Win the Fight 5K has already reached its fundraising goal of $500,000, but runners can still sign up in person (online registration is closed). It costs $30 to register.

The race will be Saturday, Sept. 27 at 8:30 a.m. It will begin and end at McDonough Field; free parking is available in the Peavine and Michael Street decks.

Orangetheory fitness to open Roswell studio

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Orangetheory Fitness will open several more studios in metro Atlanta this year.

The group exercise concept will debut its seventh Atlanta-area location in Roswell next month. The new Orangetheory will be located in the Roswell Crossing shopping center on West Crossville Road.

"We know this community will embrace this new fitness concept. Roswell has strong community support and pride," Cindy Hirsch, co-owner of the new studio, said in a release. Cindy and her husband Gary plan to open another Orangetheory studio in Suwanee in the fall. Other locations scheduled to open later this summer include Alpharetta and Druid Hills.

Orangetheory Fitness members engage in high-intensity cardio and strength training sessions. According to the company, each workout burns between 500 and 900 calories, and results in a metabolic increase that continues to burn calories for up to 36 hours.

(WXIA) -- In honor of its role as sponsor of the 2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race, Mellow Mushroom is hosting a contest for the runners, athletes and weekend warriors in metro Atlanta.

The Atlanta-based pizza chain has debuted its Mellow Sports Sweep contest. Based on the old game show "Supermarket Sweep," the contest will give two lucky winners the opportunity to go on a 90-second shopping spree at Sports Authority.

To enter, create a 15-second Instagram video using #MellowSportsSweep explaining why you should win the contest.

The grand prize includes two race entries into the 2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race, one night at the W Atlanta - Buckhead, dinner for two at Mellow Mushroom and, of course, the Sports Authority sweep.

ATLANTA -- The Patch Dash 5K benefiting Press On To Cure Childhood Cancer will be held this weekend in Emory Village.

The race will be Saturday, May 3. Race day registration opens at 6:45 a.m., and the 5K will begin at 8 a.m. A tot trot will follow at 9:15 a.m.

It costs $25 to sign up in advance and $30 on the day of the event. The tot trot is $8 in advance and $10 on race day. Runners will receive T-shirts and goodie bags.

Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers, the top male and female masters finishers and the first place male and female finishers in each age group.

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

(WXIA) -- Youth running groups, rejoice -- the Atlanta Track Club has created a scholarship program just for you.

The Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge will award scholarships to the three organizations that have the most children registered for the 2014 Peachtree Jr. or Lil' Peach Dash.

The first place team will be given a $1,500 scholarship, a $1,250 cash donation from the Atlanta Track Club and $250 in Sports Authority store credit. Two runners-up will each get $750 scholarships, $500 donations and $250 in Sports Authority credit.

"Through the Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge, we are able to give back to organizations that share our goal of inspiring children to be healthier and more active," Atlanta Track Club Executive Director Rich Kenah said in a release. "Atlanta Track Club is proud to partner with Sports Authority to offer these scholarships to provide extra motivation to keep kids moving."

ATLANTA -- It's that time of year again -- time to register for the world's largest 10K.

AJC Peachtree Road Race lottery registration is now open. It will close Saturday, Mar. 22 at 11:59 p.m.

Those who are chosen for the race will be informed by Tuesday, Mar. 25.

Run this weekend: Emory Best Buddies

ATLANTA -- Emory University will host a 5K this weekend to raise money for Best Buddies, a non-profit that serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The race will be Saturday, Feb. 22. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m., and the actual run will begin at 11 a.m. The course starts on Asbury Circle and winds through Lullwater Park on Emory's Druid Hills campus.
