WEEKEND EVENTS: Art Walks, 5K's and Street Fests

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Come out to the Taste of the Highlands, tickets sales end on May 13 at noon but the festival starts on Saturday, May 14 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Highlands. This year, participants can enjoy local favorites like La Travola, Murphy’s, El Taco, Atkins Parks, Rosebud, DBA Barbecue, Goin’ Costal and Barefoot Wine. For more information visit them online.

The Kirkwood Spring Fling and Tour of Homes/5K Road Race will begin on Saturday, May 14 and continue until May 15. This is Kirkwood’s ninth annual festival; the festival features an open air artist market, a concert, a children’s area, food vendors and plenty of fellowship with neighbors. Check out the Victorian style homes and modern bungalows.

WEEKEND EVENTS: Atlanta Gives Back, Pet Parade, Dead Prez

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Join 11Alive and the Atlanta Humane Society for the 21st Annual Pet Parade on Saturday, May 7. The parade starts at Piedmont Park at 11:00 a.m. and features 11Alive’s own, John Gerard and Chesley McNeil as the Grand Marshalls. Registration for pets starts at 9:00 a.m. and the event ends around 1:00 p.m. Registration for a pet and a parent is $35, on Saturday morning. Piedmont Park is located at 1071 Piedmont Avenue in Atlanta.

Revolutionary hip-hop duo, Dead Prez will headline a concert at Masquerade on Friday, May 6. The two-some, composed of stic.man and M-1 are known for their “raw” and “in-your-face” style of lyricism.

If you ever wanted an excuse to eat out, it would be to support the efforts of Dining Out for Life, an annual community fundraising event involving the generous support and participation of corporate sponsors, restaurant communities nationwide, dedicated community volunteers, and the thousands of citizens that will dine out on Wednesday April 27, 2011 at participating restaurants. 

The 19th Annual Dining Out for Life in Atlanta will benefit Open Hand a non-profit organization that helps to deliver over 5,400 nutritious meals daily to men, women and children who are living below the federal poverty level and strives to empower our neighbors to live healthy, independent lives.

Kroger warms customers of possible spam emails

ATLANTA – Recently, Kroger sent their Kroger Plus customers’ a letter explaining that “someone outside of the company” had tapped into their data base and obtained customers’ names and email addresses.

According to Kroger, the data base contained names and email addresses of customers who voluntarily provided their names and email addresses to Kroger.

Kroger warning their customers to not be alarmed if they receive spam email messages and they apologize for any inconvenience. Kroger, also, wants to remind their customers not to open emails from senders they don’t know.

Also, “Kroger would never ask you to email personal information such as credit card numbers or social security numbers. If you receive such a request, it did not come from Kroger and should be deleted.”

ATLANTA – (submitted by The Glenn School @ Glenn UMC) The Glenn School for Young Children Spring and Summer Clothing Sale will be held on March 4th-5th, this year. People wishing to sell clothes should visit www.glennclothingsale.org, for more information.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. but children will not be admitted until noon, that include babies in carriers and on Sunday, everything will be sold for half price.

There is limited parking in the lot around the Clothing Sale building 1669 N. Decatur Road (Glenn Memorial UMC Youth Activities Building-YAAB).  It usually is full by 9:00 a.m. on Friday.  Do not park in the bank parking lots nearby or in the Emory Village lots.  Your car will be towed.  There are two more visitor parking areas nearby
