2 Ga. colleges among nation's healthiest

(WXIA) -- Many college students seem to exist solely on beer and ramen noodles, but 10 schools have kicked it up a notch by offering world-class dining experiences.

The Daily Meal has listed the top 10 four-year colleges that go above and beyond the traditional meal plan.

The list includes two schools in metro Atlanta. Emory University comes in at No. 4, while Kennesaw State University is No. 8.

The schools were judged on the amount of healthy food they offer and whether that food is produced or grown locally. The No. 1 school, Bowdoin College in Maine, serves vegetables grown in its own organic garden.

Emory hosts a weekly farmers market on campus and obtains most of its food from farms in Georgia and Florida. The school's goal, according to its website, is to ensure that at least 75 percent of the food served in its hospitals and cafeterias is sustainably grown.

Kennesaw State's Farm-to-Campus program sees that most of the school's food is grown on farms in nearby Cartersville and Ball Ground. KSU students can volunteer to work on one of the farms and have a hand in producing the food they eat.

The top 10 colleges with the most nutritious dining options include:

1. Bowdoin College
2. Washington University in St. Louis
3. Virginia Tech
4. Emory University
5. University of California, Los Angeles
