CDC Foundation gets $1M grant to fight Ebola

(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention received a $1M grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to fight the West African Ebola outbreak, the foundations announced jointly Aug. 25.

The grant will go toward contributing essential materials and assistance to advance the CDC's response, including personal protective equipment, thermal scanners, infection control training and laptop computers for communication and disease tracking.

More isolation beds and Ebola treatment centers are also needed.

Latest numbers from the CDC cite more than 2,600 cases of Ebola and 1,400 deaths reported in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, the four countries affected by the outbreak thus far.

More than 70 public health experts from the CDC are currently deployed to these countries, and there are plans to send more.
