It happens at the same time every year.  That once-in-a-lifetime experience for parents, dropping their kids off at college for the first time.  It's a difficult transition for parents, going from having a high school student always around to having a college student only at home occasionally.  Emory University psychology professor Marshall Duke speaks to parents at Emory's orientation weekend to help them with that transition.  He supplies tips for how to cope, discusses what emotions to expect, and what to say to your student when your leaving campus.

Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum continues its Inaugural Four-Year Civil War Series “The American Civil War: One-Hundred-Fifty Years Later” with “Movies in the Park” an outdoor movie screening in Grant Park. Friday, August 12 at dusk, Grant Park is the location for the rescheduled screening of “GLORY”.

For most this will be the first full school day, the first  year to ride the school bus, the first year to have homework, and the first year when peer influences begin to play a role.

“Six Flags is always looking for ways to be involved in the community,” said Melinda Ashcraft, Park President.  “We could not think of a better way to say farewell to summer than by collecting school supplies for families that cannot afford these essentials for their children.”
