ATLANTA -- Hip-hop artist Usher will speak at Emory University's undergraduate business school leadership conference.

The performer, whose full name is Usher Raymond III, will headline a panel discussion Thursday with high school and college students who are part of his New Look Foundation, which focuses on mentoring youth.

The event is part of a two-and-a-half day seminar at Emory's Goizueta Business School. Participants are from the top 25 undergraduate business school programs in the U.S., as well as leading institutions in England, Italy, France, Ireland, Colombia, Chile, China, Singapore and other countries.

'Get Married This Year' author to host workshop, book signing

ATLANTA -- Forget waiting for Mr. Right -- you can go out and find "The One" yourself.

That's what Dr. Janet Page believes, anyway. The Atlanta-based relationship expert is the author of Get Married This Year: 365 Days to "I Do," which condenses the very best of her dating class into one book.

Dr. Page, who taught the acclaimed Emory University dating class for 22 years, will bring her expert knowledge to a workshop and book signing at the Buckhead Theatre at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Get Married This Year begins with a chapter on Knowing Yourself, and goes on to cover How to Stop Being Your Own Worst Enemy, Stress Proof Your Dating Life, Get the Right Attitude, Be a Smart Shopper and Keeping Love Alive.

Dr. Page says she can give women the blueprint they need to take charge of their love lives and find everlasting love -- all in 12 months or less.

EMORY | Former poet laureate to give reading

EMORY | Former poet laureate to give reading

ATLANTA -- Former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins will give a free reading at Emory University later this month.

Collins will speak at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 at Emory's Glenn Memorial Auditorium. The school expects a capacity crowd for the popular poet.

Collins has authored eight collections, including The Trouble with Poetry in 2005, Ballistics in 2008 and most recently Horoscopes for the Dead last year. He is a distinguished professor of English at Lehman College of the City University of New York.

Books and a limited-edition broadside will be available for sale at the reading and signing afterward. The reading is part of the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library Reading Series.

The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Pop singer, Gavin DeGraw will be performing at Atlantic Station’s “Winter Wonder Jam series. Atlantic Station will host a free concert series, which will conclude on December 23. The series has featured popular acts like: Sister Hazel and Citizen Cope, over the past couple of weeks. Attendees can text JAM to 57682 the week of each show to find out who plays next. The concert will be held at Atlantic Station’s Central Park.

The Atlanta Hawks will be holding an Open Scrimmage on Friday night from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Highlight Factory.

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

The Gwinnett Braves will be hosting a Marines Toys for Tots Drive on Friday and Saturday at Coolray Field. The Braves want to make sure “as many children as possible” have a Merry Christmas. People can take their donations between noon and 3:00 p.m. and meet with former Braves pitchers Phil Niekro and Zane Smith and former Falcons defensive back Scott Case. For each new unwrapped toy you bring, the Braves will give you a ticket to exchange for an autograph. The Toy Drive will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

To celebrate Emory University's 175th anniversary, a special convocation was held Dec. 7th in Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church to honor the school's legacy and look toward what is to come. Among the packed crowd were more than 100 of the 175 Emory history makers who have left an indelible mark on Emory and society.
