Neighbors to protest proposed Clifton Road Subdivision

Neighbors to protest proposed Clifton Road Subdivision

EMORY – The Druid Hills Civic Association will meet for a Public Hearing tonight at Maloof Auditorium with the DeKalb County Planning Commission. The association has learned that “owner/developers of the Nunan Property (currently 3 lots at 1142, 1150 & 1158 Clifton Road), located adjacent to Burbanck Park, has applied for a subdivision which if allowed would carve out 7 new smaller lots, a new public street ending in a cul-de-sac, and a detention pond overlooking Burbanck Park”.

This subdivision violates the historic platting pattern of historic Druid Hills.

The existing 3 historic lots are not only within DeKalb County’s Druid Hills Historic District, but are also on the National Register of Historic Places-- the highest designation for properties of historical significance in the United States.

Neighbors are being urged to attend this hearing at 6PM

CEO Tells Feds Proposed Budget Cuts Could Hurt DeKalb County

EMORY – (submitted by DeKalb County Government) CEO Burrell Ellis joined fellow county chief executives in Washington this weekend to oppose $60 billion in proposed budget cuts scheduled for a vote by the U. S. House this week. If implemented, these cuts would cost the county more than $10 million this year.

“Congress is considering $60 billion in cuts, which could mean an additional 700,000 jobs lost,” said CEO Ellis. “DeKalb County stands to lose $9.9 million in 2011, alone.”

Of the $60 billion in proposed cuts, a 25% reduction in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds that is being proposed would reduce the fund by over a billion dollars.
