ATLANTA (January 20, 2011) – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has been ranked among FORTUNE magazine’s elite list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” in America.  It is the sixth consecutive time the not-for-profit pediatric health care system has been named to the list.  Landing at No. 60, Children’s is the only hospital in Georgia to appear on the list, and one of only three companies headquartered in Georgia. When broken down by size, Children’s placed 18th in the midsized company sub-category, and earned special recognition for being a top company for women, placing fourth in a sub-category for female employees.

ESTATE TAXES & THE NEW TAX BILL - MORE AND LESS CERTAINTY

The estate planning measures passed in the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010 beg the question "what do we do now?"  This new bill reinstates the estate tax with an exemption amount of $5 million dollars for an individual and a maximum estate tax rate of 35% on values above the exemption amount.  Married couples will have the ability to pass $10 million dollars of assets before any estate tax will be due.  In addition, all assets included in an estate will have their basis automatically "stepped-up" to fair market value.  This means that assets will likely have no capital gains tax if they are sold soon after death since their value is stepped-up.  The generation skipping tax exemption was also increased to $5 million dollars.

Decatur-based Paste Magazine Goes Online Only

DECATUR, GA -- Paste Magazine on Wednesday ended its run in print.

The Decatur-based monthly music magazine's editor Josh Jackson made the announcement on the magazine's website, saying the magazine would no longer come out in print but would focus on online ventures.

"Struggles with mounting debt were made public last year when our readers responded with generosity to save the magazine," Jackson wrote. "But the prolonged downturn of the ad market has forced a hiatus. All subscribers have access to the digital version of their magazines through the June/July issue on PasteMagazine.com. Paste, while considering strategic alternatives, is focusing on its digital assets, including PasteMagazine.com."

The magazine reportedly had more than 200,000 subscribers.
