Emory names new CEOs for 2 hospitals

ATLANTA -- Emory Healthcare has hired new CEOs to run two of its top hospitals.

Marilyn Margolis has been named CEO of Emory Johns Creek Hospital. She began her Emory career more than 30 years ago, working as a nurse. She has led nursing teams in various areas throughout the Emory Healthcare system.

Margolis became CNO of Emory Johns Creek Hospital in 2011, then was promoted in 2013 to CNO and vice president of operations. She became interim CEO last September.

Margolis received the Georgia Hospital Association's 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Daniel Owens is the new CEO of Emory University Hospital Midtown. He began working for the health system in 1994 and has held numerous operations positions, including corporate controller for Emory's corporate finance department.

He became vice president of operations at the Midtown hospital in 2012, and was named interim CEO in September 2014.

The invitation-only conference was held at the Waldorf-Astoria, September 8-10, in Orlando, Fla.

This exclusive conference is designed to promote best practices and generate new ideas across the industry.  Participants attended workshops, led by the Top 100 Financial Advisors that explored current issues ranging from business development ideas through managing high-net-worth accounts and family relationships to portfolio management and retirement planning.

U.S. News: Emory No. 1 hospital in Georgia

ATLANTA -- Emory University Hospital was again ranked the best hospital in Atlanta and in Georgia by U.S. News & World Report.

According to the news magazine's 2014-2015 list of best hospitals, Emory has 10 nationally ranked specialties and three high-performing specialties.

The 579-bed hospital ranked nationally in cancer; cardiology/heart surgery; endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology/GI surgery; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology; and urology.

Shepherd Center ranked No. 2 in metro Atlanta and ranked nationally for rehabilitation.

Orangetheory fitness to open Roswell studio

Orangetheory fitness to open Roswell studio

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Orangetheory Fitness will open several more studios in metro Atlanta this year.

The group exercise concept will debut its seventh Atlanta-area location in Roswell next month. The new Orangetheory will be located in the Roswell Crossing shopping center on West Crossville Road.

"We know this community will embrace this new fitness concept. Roswell has strong community support and pride," Cindy Hirsch, co-owner of the new studio, said in a release. Cindy and her husband Gary plan to open another Orangetheory studio in Suwanee in the fall. Other locations scheduled to open later this summer include Alpharetta and Druid Hills.

Orangetheory Fitness members engage in high-intensity cardio and strength training sessions. According to the company, each workout burns between 500 and 900 calories, and results in a metabolic increase that continues to burn calories for up to 36 hours.

Lennar, Sterling buy North DeKalb Mall


(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) -- Lennar Commercial Investors LLC teamed with Sterling Organization to buy North DeKalb Mall for an undisclosed sum.

The development team, which also includes Atlanta-based Hendon Properties, plans to convert the enclosed portion of the property to an open-air concept. Lennar and Sterling acquired ownership interest in the property and Sterling will manage the center. Timing on the redevelopment has not been set.
