Atlanta Master Chorale to perform Christmas show at Emory

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Master Chorale will spread joy this holiday season with a special Christmas concert at Emory University.

The chorus will perform Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. in the university's Emerson Concert Hall.

Tickets are $25 general admission and $10 for Emory students.

Emerson Concert Hall is located inside the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts at 1700 North Decatur Road.

International Food and Music Festival returns Oct. 19

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- This year's DeKalb International Food and Music Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 19 at Northlake Mall.

The event, which will be held from noon to 6 p.m., is coordinated by county Commissioner Stan Watson.

"We are excited to bring back the DeKalb International Food and Musical Festival, and I am confident that the festival will unite the dynamic blend of cultures and traditions that continue to exist in our country," Watson said in a statement.

The International Food and Music Festival celebrates DeKalb residents' many cultures, including Asian, African, West Indian and Middle Eastern. Planned festivities include shopping, food sampling and a Children's Village with puppet shows and face painting; admission to the kids' section is $10.

ATLANTA -- Elevate Week, the Office of Cultural Affairs' large scale public art project, will begin Friday, Oct. 18 at locations throughout the city.

Muralists and performance groups will create art with the theme "Transit: Time, People and Places" through Saturday, Oct. 26.

"I am excited by this year's program because it is a testament to the evolving role of public art in the cultural and economic development of Atlanta," Eddie Granderson, public art program manager for the Office of Cultural Affairs, said in a statement. "We are growing Atlanta's reputation as a cultural destination through public art."

MARTA has partnered with the program to design a special Elevate bus. Route 49 will drive past much of the Elevate artwork, giving riders the opportunity to see it.

Paul Simon to lecture at Emory

Paul Simon to lecture at Emory

ATLANTA -- Legendary songwriter Paul Simon will give the 2013 Richard Ellmann Lectures in Modern Literature at Emory University in September.

The lecture series includes two public talks, a music performance and a conversation between Simon and former U.S. poet laureate Billy Collins.

It will be held Sept. 22-24. Tickets go on sale on Monday. Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. They are free, but are limited to two per person, per event.

Morgan Stanley sponsors Atlanta Mountainfilm on Tour Travelling Film Festival

ATLANTA -- Morgan Stanley is the presenting sponsor of the Mountainfilm on Tour ATL event, held on Sept. 6 and 7 at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta. Mountainfilm on Tour is a traveling showcase of inspiring, adventurous and humorous short films spotlighting the environment and outdoor activity. All screenings during the two-day event are curated from the 2013 Mountainfilm in Telluride Film Festival held earlier this year.

Spaces still available in puppet camp

ATLANTA -- The Michael C. Carlos Museum will hold two puppet camps for children later this month.

Puppet Maker: Animating and Articulating introduces kids to the African puppets in the museum's collection and then encourages them to create their own puppets out of wood, raffia and paint.

A session for children ages 7-9 is already full, but a second camp for kids ages 10-12 is still open. It will be held the week of July 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Puppet Maker camp is $185 per child for Carlos Museum members and $225 for non-members. After-camp care is available for an additional $60.
