2nd Chance Offender Re-entry Program in DeKalb County

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a grant in the amount of $424,852 by the US Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs for the 2nd Chance Offender Re-entry Program.

The 2nd Chance Act Prisoner Re-entry Initiative aids in the funding of local and state governments for projects that help with the transition from incarceration to dealing with other individuals in the workplace and other capacities once released from jail.

The funds from the grant will provide pre-release and case planning, mentoring, housing, education, substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, services to enhance family reunification, job training and readiness, and post-release case management and supervision.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with two non-profit organizations to help implement this program. They are STAND, Inc. and CaringWorks, Inc.

STAND is a community based provider of substance abuse treatment, job placement assistance and other services for those that have been incarcerated.  And CaringWorks specializes in supportive housing. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for low-income individuals and families by helping to increase their ability to be personally and economically self-sufficient.
